Born from magnificent beech trees, AKA the “queen of British trees”, TENCEL™ Modal is a treated plant wool made by Lenzing. A lower-impact, natural alternative to viscose (a semi-synthetic fibre), Modal is fully biodegradable in water, soil, and compost.

Modal generates 2.84 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions per one kilogram of fibre, compared to the 89.1 kilograms CO2 equivalent generated by producing one kilogram of sheep’s wool.
As a material, Modal is strong, breathable, and absorbent with impressive resistance to shrinkage, colour fade, and pilling. Its incredibly silky feel makes Modal a popular alternative to cashmere wool and is often used to replace animal-derived silk. Modal also drapes beautifully, making it a darling of designers who want to avoid viscose but achieve a gorgeous silhouette.
