Producing wool requires huge amounts of water, not only to raise the sheep but also to rid the raw wool of impurities.

It takes a whopping 170,000 litres of water to produce just 1 kilogram of clean wool.

Cotton requires 5,300 litres of water per kilogram.

According to natural resources scientist Professor Wayne Meyer, it takes a whopping 170,000 litres of water to produce just 1 kilogram of clean wool. By comparison, he estimates that cotton (renowned for being a thirsty crop) requires 5,300 litres per kilogram.
